Venus Diamond nano-hybrid composite reduces stress for dentists by allowing an unusually long processing time of approximately 3 ½ minutes.
When working with dental composites, it is essential that the processing time be long enough for the dentist to comfortably introduce and model the composite before it begins to set due to the ambient light. Dental manufacturers have long strived to develop a material that exhibits low sensitivity to both the dentist’s chair lighting and the ambient light in the operatory.
Researchers at Heraeus Kulzer were able to achieve a major breakthrough in this quest with the development of Venus Diamond, a universal nano-hybrid composite. Specially formulated to be much less sensitive to light than other composites, Venus Diamond delivers an extraordinarily long processing time of 3 ½ minutes. This time frame allows dentists to design and model highly esthetic and functional restorations without feeling rushed.
To put this into perspective, Venus Diamond’s processing time takes longer than it took Moroccan athlete Hicham El Guerrouj to run 1,500 meters—the so-called “metric mile”—when he set the world record in that race.
Venus Diamond’s superior processing time was documented in an in-vitro study1 examining the ambient light sensitivities of it and three other composites. The sensitivity against ambient light was measured in accordance with ISO standard 4049 for filling, restorative and fixing plastics.
The study indicated that Venus Diamond exhibited the longest processing time before polymerization—3 ½ minutes—of the four composites tested. As a result, Venus Diamond provides dentists with enough time for modeling anatomic tooth structures and for making necessary corrections without time pressure.
The functional design of the chewing surface can thus be achieved even in very complex situations. The extensive time required for processing the set filling is reduced, which pleases patients by shortening the overall treatment time.
Venus Diamond is a light-curing radio-opaque and universal nano-hybrid composite that combines low shrinkage stress with high flexural strength. It ensures durable and longlasting restorations due to its high abrasion resistance and optimal surface hardness.
Venus Diamond’s excellent handling properties facilitate efficient modeling and highly esthetic results. Its optimal color-adaptation potential, advanced layering concept and broad color range allow the achievement of an exceptionally natural look. Venus Diamond is available as pre-loaded capsules or as syringes, and is compatible with all common adhesive systems and bonding techniques.
